Ο Σπύρος Μακρής είναι Αναπληρωτής Καθηγητής Πολιτικής Θεωρίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο Μακεδονίας. Μεταξύ άλλων έχει διατελέσει Ερευνητικός Εταίρος στην Ακαδημία Αθηνών, Visiting Scholar στο University of Brighton και Visiting Research Fellow-in-Residence στο University of Oxford. Το εαρινό εξάμηνο του ακαδημαϊκού έτους 2022-2023 του απονεμήθηκε ο τίτλος του Visiting Research Fellow στο University of Sussex.
